So, I was doing the math today. Getting Project $300 operational will be a total of about $750. I wondered what else I could buy for that same $750. So I checked my local Craigslist, and found two gems.
The first is a 1987 Nissan Sentra wagon. It appears to be rust-free, has 109k miles, an automatic, and has some minor carburetor issues. He was asking $750 for it when it was posted a month ago.

The second one is a 1986 Mazda 323 wagon. It again appears to be rust-free, has 162k miles, manual, and has some minor issues (radio, washer fluid pump, etc.) He was asking $800 when it was posted a month ago.

I would get the Mazda over the Sentra.

what was the original car that needed 750 in repairs? If you buy a new one you will have to pays taxes and registration on it so depending on what you want it may be worth going with the original car

I'm not switching cars, I was just curious what the same money could have bought me. These were the only two cars that were a better deal. Also, I hadn't figured in taxes or reg. on either one.
Project $300 is a '00 Grand Am SE coupe that I bought for, naturally, $300.
Work that has been done so far:
- New fuel pump: $220
- New taillight and spare tire jack equipment: $60
- New mirrors: Christmas gift
- Remove aftermarket alarm system.
- Replace ignition switch: $40
It still needs a new windshield, which I might be able to get for $135-175.

Buy the 323 wagon and I'll be your OE Mazda parts bitch. Might even give you an Oppo discount. B===========D

I don't even know if the guy still has it.
Also, then I'd have 3 cars - the Ram 50, the Grand Am, and this 323. I'd have to sell one of them.
